Images of the Month - November & December 2005
Old-Time Americana

This spring I went prowling around the mountain backcountry of North Carolina looking for anything interesting. I found old America, scenes from another era. Below are a few scenes I found most evocative of times gone by.

“I love everything about this scene - from the name of the town (Luck, N.C.), to the clever ‘Little Bit o’ Luck’ sign to the old gas pumps - even the owner’s name is in character - I wonder if ‘Pink’ is a nickname (the use of a middle initial suggests not) or if someone actually named their kid ‘Pink’?”
“Little Bit o’ Luck”

“To me this is a very powerful image - even as gravity slowly and inexorably pulls the stones down one by one from the crumbling chimney, beautiful new life in the form of wild wisteria takes up residence in the eaves”
“Wild Wisteria”

“A white Baptist Church in every little community no matter how small”
“Southern Sunday”

Thanks for looking! I post these images for two reasons: (1) for those who are interested in seeing my latest work and (2) because they are a great way for me to guage reaction. Due to the significant investment in printing images, I often hold off going into the darkroom until I get your reactions.
>>>> I would greatly appreciate your feedback - now.
