Images of the Month - July 2004
Cute Animal Pictures
On the lighter side, a few more of my 'incidental animals'. Although
I do not consider myself a wildlife photographer per se, when I'm
out shooting landscapes, I occasionally happen upon fortuitous
opportunites to capture wildlife on film as well.

“Twins”
These little guys seemed joined at the hip - for all their nervous energy, they wouldn’t leave each others side, even with me just a few feet away.  Contrary to popular belief, skunks don’t just spray willy-nilly - only when they feel significantly threatened.

“Sunbather”
One interesting behavior of the Hawaiian green turtle is its fondness for coming onshore at isolated sites to bask. Basking is rare among marine turtles, and for the Hawaiian green, this behavior seems to be limited to the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands like Kaua’i. It is thought that they do this for thermoregulation (to warm up) or to rest (sleep in the sun). Sounds just like humans to me.

“I Dare You”
The barbed wire doesn’t look like enough of a barrier to me.  I grab the shot and hightail it out of there.

Thanks for looking! I post these images for two reasons: (1) for those who are interested in seeing my latest work and (2) because they are a great way for me to guage reaction. Due to the significant investment in printing images, I often hold off going into the darkroom until I get your reactions.
>>>> I would greatly appreciate your feedback - now.
