Dressed in Winter White

March 2006

It’s a gorgeous, blue sky day in the Sierra-Nevada mountains. Spirits high, I come flying down the highway into Mono Lake Basin--and into a dense ice fog. Until I slow down to a safe speed, I feel like a pilot without instruments descending for landing through thick clouds. Can’t see much but the two yellow lines in front of me. From bright mountain light to a dim, clausterphobic soup in a matter of seconds. Now under control, my eyes adjust and an eerie world glazed in white is revealed to me. Soon, the fog lifts and I excitedly click away before the sun can melt the magic.

Thanks for looking! I post these images for two reasons: (1) for those who are interested in seeing my latest work and (2) I often hold off going into the darkroom to print an image until I get your reactions.
