Images of the Month - February 2005
My

The wall in the back room of my house is all windows, bringing the forest in -- very inspiring -- so naturally it's where I do much of my work. I have observed all sorts of wildlife from inside my glass cage including all manner of birds both big and small (a large flock of turkeys are regular visitors), coyotes, skunks, fox, possom,

“Deer Friends”

raccoons -- I even saw a bobcat once. Of course I see deer on a regular basis, so it came as no surprise when I stepped outside to bring some firewood in and saw two deer browsing about 50 feet away. They looked up at me but showed no fear so I gently spoke to them. They studied me, ears twitching as if straining to hear what I had to say. I felt a connection. The very next day I was again

“Half Asleep”

working in the back room when a deer sauntered past me no more than 15 feet away. It stopped at the edge of the forest about 30 feet away and began pawing the snow. I assumed it was foraging -- looking for something to eat.  But then it began kicking up some serious snow and I soon saw why - it was making its bed. As it was easing itself down into its snow bed it stopped and looked up at me. We gazed into each other's eyes and I saw only peace there, not a trace of anxiousness. Soon another deer wandered over and snuggled in next to the first deer - these were the deer from yesterday, I just knew it! They got comfortable and alternately dozed while the other kept watch. They stayed there for over three hours before finally deciding that nap time was over. Together, they slowly stood up and began to wander off lazily. Just before disappearing into the forest, they both stopped in unison and looked back as if to say "see ya later!". I waved goodbye to my deer friends and went back to work, feeling incredibly lucky for this, another close encounter of the wild kind.

“My Watch”

Thanks for looking! I post these images for two reasons: (1) for those who are interested in seeing my latest work and (2) because they are a great way for me to guage reaction. Due to the significant investment in printing images, I often hold off going into the darkroom until I get your reactions.
>>>> I would greatly appreciate your feedback - now.
