Images of the Month - February 2004
Shrouded in Mist
I am very fond of mist. As a curtain of mist swirls and flows, holes open and
close causing elements of the scene to drift in and out of perception,
thereby creating an ever-changing collage of endless possibilites of which
no two visions are ever exactly alike. This month I celebrate the magic of mist.

“The Grand Illusion” - Wrangell Mountains, Alaska

On the hike to the spectacular Stairway Icefall in the Wrangell - St. Elias region of Alaska, remote mountain peaks, disembodied by the mist, drifted in and out of view evoking visions of distant grand castles.

“River of Mist” - Exit Glacier Valley, Alaska

We began our hike up to the Harding Icefield in uninspiring, pale, pre-dawn light. About a half an hour into the hike we turned and looked back as the sun began to crest the mountain behind us, and to our delight, were rewarded with this heavenly view of a river of mist, one part highlighted by the sun’s first rays and another part still in the blue shadow of the mountain.

“Swan Lake” - Kenai Peninsula, Alaska

Appearing like miniature icebergs on the lake, this pair of reclusive Trumpeter swans add a dash of elegance to the quiet beauty of misty wilderness. Trumpeter swans are North America’s largest bird and generally mate for life.

Thanks for looking! I post these images for two reasons: (1) for those who are interested in seeing my latest work and (2) because they are a great way for me to guage reaction. Due to the significant investment in printing images, I often hold off going into the darkroom until I get your reactions.
>>>> I would greatly appreciate your feedback - now.
